Outside The Lens Launches “Voice Out,” a Bi-National Youth Media Arts Exhibition
April 16, 2024
SAN DIEGO, California, April 16, 2024—Outside The Lens will host “Voice Out,” its inaugural juried youth media arts exhibition on May 18th, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at The Wonder Lab, a media arts hub in San Diego’s East Village. “Voice Out” celebrates the voices and stories of young artists from San Diego and Tijuana. Over 100 artworks ranging from photography to illustration and mixed media will be on display and attendees can enjoy a live DJ set, panel discussion and awards ceremony. The main event is free and tickets for a VIP reception and preview from 3-4 p.m. are also available for purchase. Over the past month, Outside The Lens invited young creatives living in San Diego and Tijuana, aged 8-19, to submit digital artwork expressing their unique point of view on the theme of “place.” The show’s title, “Voice Out” refers to the power of individual expression for collective impact, specifically for the next generation of changemakers.
Outside The Lens Executive Director, Sarah Beckman established “Voice Out” as an annual event for the East Village nonprofit within her first year at the helm of the organization. “It’s an excellent opportunity for young artists from San Diego and Tijuana to express their point of view through media arts,” Sarah explained. “The event is designed to elevate youth voice, and provide the experience of exhibiting their work in a gallery setting, getting feedback from peers and professionals, and inspiring dialogue around issues that matter to them. This year’s theme of ‘place,’” she continued, “ opens a path for us all to explore the concepts of belonging, connection, and self-expression.”
