Outside The Lens Programs

Join us in championing the next generation of artists, storytellers, and innovators as we shape a more vibrant and connected world through the lens of media arts education.

Outside The Lens programs are offered both during and beyond the school day, with a focus not only on fostering media arts skills but also promoting social-emotional development, media literacy, career exploration, and civic engagement. Our programs serve youth in the San Diego community.

K–8 Programs

We partner with schools, integrating media arts and technology into curriculums for grades K–8 to help address gaps in arts education. Outside of schools, we work with community organizations to offer after-school programs and summer camps.

Teen & Transitional Age Youth Programs

We partner with community organizations and schools to provide programs for teens and transitional age youth (18–25 years old). These programs create pathways for careers and college readiness, while encouraging self-discovery and civic engagement.

Educator Trainings

We train educators to integrate media arts and storytelling into their curriculum. Training includes practical skills and ready-to-use projects aligned with Media Arts and Common Core standards.

Summer Camps

Our K–8 Summer Camps in San Diego invite youth to unleash their imagination and explore various artistic mediums. Hands-on activities include photography, filmmaking, graphic design, and animation.

Community Workshops

Our evening and weekend community workshops provide a space for families, teens, and adults to develop their media arts skills.

Our comprehensive approach ensures that participants receive a well-rounded experience that equips them with a diverse set of tools and insights for their future endeavors.

OTL educators create a learning environment centered around trauma-informed practices, culturally responsive teaching, social-emotional learning, and restorative practices. Educators are professional artists who bring their passion for the arts and their professional experience to their programs.
