At Outside the Lens, our mission is to ignite confidence in youth and build community through the transformative power of media arts. Our second annual Open House was a vibrant celebration of that mission, bringing together more than 100 attendees for an evening of creativity, connection, and inspiration.
A Warm Welcome
Guests had the opportunity to learn about OTL, meet our dedicated staff, and explore the variety of programs we offer. Through engaging, hands-on activities, attendees experienced firsthand the impact of our work.
Hands-On Creativity
The evening was brimming with interactive experiences that celebrated OTL’s innovative approach to media arts education:
- Youth-Led Workshops: Members of OTL’s Youth Council hosted inspiring zine-making and self-portraiture activities, demonstrating their leadership and artistic skills in both analogue and digital media.
- Story Booth: Guests shared their perspectives on creativity in a video-based booth, contributing to a communal collage that grew richer with every response.
- Virtual Reality Demos: Attendees explored the future of media arts with thrilling VR experiences, revealing how technology is reshaping storytelling.
- Media Lab and Publications: Guests browsed a “library” of student-created publications and works from across our programs, gaining insight into the creative journeys of our youth.
Building Community
The best part of the night? Meeting new faces, reconnecting with familiar ones, and celebrating the shared belief in the power of creativity to inspire change.
