Free Family Arts Event: Outside The Lens Hosts Open House with Hands-on Activities for All Ages

SAN DIEGO, California. August 8, 2025 – Outside The Lens (OTL) invites families and educators to a free Open House on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4-6 PM. The event at OTL’s headquarters (125 14th Street, San Diego, CA 92101) features hands-on media arts activities, food, and a chance to see films, photography and other artwork created by local youth.
“Our annual Open House embodies everything we stand for—interactive learning through creative technology, sharing young people’s stories, and the belief that art has the power to make transformative change,” says Sarah Beckman, Executive Director of Outside The Lens. “When guests leave, they’ll understand why giving youth access to both traditional and digital creative tools is essential for our future. The afternoon transforms OTL’s vibrant space into an experiential playground of creativity.”

This isn’t a typical networking event—it’s an immersive experience for educators, creatives, parents and community members curious about the intersection of art and technology for youth today, and the workforce tomorrow.
“We’re dreaming big,” notes Beckman. “We’re here to help bridge the gap between what the kids of our community need, and what schools and parents can provide. As youth spend more time online, their lives become more complex, unsafe, and uncertain. At OTL we’re creating a space where young people build confidence and cultivate a sense of belonging.”
The event showcases OTL’s impact across San Diego County, where the organization has worked with more than 27,000 students over 24 years. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening, providing ample time for visitors to connect with fellow creativity enthusiasts and explore at their own pace.
